First, let me just say I’m not talking about plants though they are the obvious way! Here are my 3 top hacks in creating an indoor garden.
In spring this year I discovered forest-bathing. I am fortunate to live next to a beautiful park, not quite a forest, but a small, beautiful and well kept park by the City of London. Whenever I can I go for a walk and do a good round at the park usually with my eldest. It takes about 35 – 40 minutes to walk the entire perimeter with some loops within the ornamental gardens. We thoroughly enjoy our walks and feel refreshed afterwards.
Whilst forest-bathing literally means going for a walk in the forest for at least 2 hours to immerse yourself in nature, I realised there are some tips and tricks to simulate this experience in the home. Here are what I learned and have since enjoyed in my own home.
My 3 Top Hacks in Creating an Indoor Garden
Call it whatever you like: indoor forest, oasis, garden, park. The essence is bringing in and experiencing nature inside your home.
1. Cover your walls and furniture with greenery
In the form of a wallpaper mural, I created a Garden of Eden in my bedroom using Graham and Brown’s New Eden mural. It is a STUNNING design of rolling hills and forestscape filled with the most delightful of surprises: a dashing deer, a handsome peacock and many hidden natural treasures in lush greenery. And, no maintenance is required – this lush scenery is evergreen day in day out, all year round.
Whilst wallpapers and murals may only appeal to the sensory of sight, this New Eden mural does bring me much joy waking up surrounded by such beautiful scenery. It reminds me to be grateful for creation and to be thankful for the natural world which is a gift for us to look after and enjoy.
I didn’t quite stop at the walls! I also covered my wardrobe in this beautiful mural for that all-embracing vibe. And it’s so much fun too! I was aiming for a 360 degree mural in my bedroom. But it’s a loft bedroom with some built in storage along the eaves so I couldn’t quite achieve the full 360.
2. Use nature coloured and patterned bedding
I love the feel of good quality bedding; it makes me look forward to bedtime every day, in my cosy PJs and having a little read before dozing off. This Clarke and Clarke William Morris Teal Blue Acanthus bedding is a firm favourite. It hardly comes off for once it is off and laundered I put it straight back on!
I also have the matching Acanthus throw in soft velvet. It’s beautifully made with tassels on the edges. I actually use it as a side table cover at the moment as it goes perfectly in my blue dining room next to the William Morris Strawberry thief ruffle cushion which sits is on my dining room chair at the end of the table. Clarke and Clarke have partnered with Next so that their beautiful homeware products are now available from Next.
Even just embracing the colours of nature: greens, peach, yellows, oranges and natural wood can bring in outdoors. They are soothing to the eye and calming to the mind. I love that they reflect the changes of our seasons which means we can have nature all year round within our interior spaces.
3. Embrace forest-bathing techniques
Along with relaxing breathing techniques for calm and relaxation, by using candles and diffusers you can fill your space with the scent of nature. I was invited to a wellness experience at HVN in London and it was beautiful and relaxing. My favourite was the HVN Forest Candle with its unique blend of herbs, leaves and flowers and boosts immunity. Along with using diffusers and room sprays, you can totally immerse yourself in the scents and aromas of the natural forest. It is a wonderful and relaxing feeling to connect with nature where you are totally at home in your own space.

With winter fast approaching her in the western hemisphere, it’s the perfect time to bring the outdoors in, embrace nature and create an indoor garden oasis in our homes.
